Sorry folks, bad internet

Hello there,
my third attempt this week to post anything on the blog, because it wasn't possible for three days to post anything (which is rather frustrating).

Therefore I will try and do my best to describe these three days to you all.

We have mainly been observing lessons, of which some were rather interesting and others were pretty boring. During these observations we were alowed to talk to the pupils, but of course at that point we never really understood what was mentionned by this.
What struck us most, was that there were faults in the French syllabus, taught by a native French speaker. Might be that she hadn't written the syllabus herself, but still she could have checked on spelling mistakes. I mean: chamber (chambre) metre (has to be with two t's) , etc. In the French lessons, not all the time was French spoken, which was strange, as we are taught to use the target language all the time. But I suppose it is normal to do that when you are teaching first years in a language.

What is really great at the school is the kitchen: it's absolutely lovely to eat there because there is such marvellous meals. And all that for maximus £2.30. Isn't that great??! Anyway, since we've tried one thing, we dine at the lunchroom all the time.

Another great thing about this expercience: I have discovered that Tanja and I, and Evi and I are very much alike. We really get along very well and it's nice to finally meet and get to know them. After three years, it would be about time...

yesterday we had parents evening and afterwards we went to the pub. In the pub we had some typically English food: Lyndsay and I had steak and mushroom pie which was absolutely tasty. It was my first pie actually so I was looking forward to eating that for the first time. Tanja had a delicous vegetarian dish, Timmy and Ann both had Italian chicken and Evi went for rump steak. We had so much fun mainly because Evi and I have the same stupid laugh when we get the giggles. Every time something funny occurred, Evi and I had the giggles and the entire table laughed so laud, the entire pub was staring at us at a certain point. We appologised, but apparently that meant you were having fun and in the UK it isn't something to be embarrased about. The bar tender told us, that the men coming down there made a lot more noise than we do.

This morning we realised it was Friday the 13th, which could have been a lead to our absolutely terrible day today. We had a meeting with Viv in which she announced that the staff wasn't pleased with us. We were all taken aback by this, but after talking to Viv, it appeared that we had been underinformed! If we had known all that beforehand, a lot of trouble wouldn't be in this position. But we took the bulls by the horn and jumped into the adventure with new courage and intention to change the feeling the staff has towards us.

Pupils and teachers even told us some "goodies" to go out to, which might be very interesting if we wanted to go out sometime.

After a tiring day, we were able to set out timetables for the first teachingweek, which will not be a regular teaching week like we're used to. I will be doing a lot of co - teaching, which means: help the teacher during lessons with pupils who have difficulties copping or who are regardless and unaffected by any means of teaching. Of the fifteen lessons I will be teaching, there will be about three subjects I teach myself, or with someone of us, but we have made the lessons ourselves.

We finally know what we will be up to those weeks and finally I am looking forward to teaching there.

I can write so much more, but well, let's keep it to this!

See yah later floks!

  1. Finally found some time to put a reaction here. Since you've been blabbing along in English, I will do so as well :p Can you believe that most of the time, when I'm reading your adventures, I'm thinking "yeah, typically" ? I mean, flushing candles through the toilet???? Who in the world would be capable to do that by accident? LOL I've also noticed you mention food a lot ... :D Anyway, you brighten up my day with your funny stories ;)
Hope you and your team have a great time and remember: teach as you preach :D
    Hugs
